trigger warning: homophobia, abuse

thecityisarisingtide:

i had a friend in high school who was very strange. intriguing, i guess, would be a more suitable word for him. it was the first high school i attended (i attended three), and it was the kind of school that was not kind to students who opted out of playing sports. my friend wore make-up, was open about his bi-sexuality, and stood in front of our Planning Success class to report that he had big plans to become a mortician.

he was mixed up. his mother was sent to prison for having sex with three of his 12 year old friends. he lived with his dad way out in the back country. his dad was the kind of dad who attended church every sunday, only to return home where he’d verbally abuse my friend and beat the shit out of him. he would stop calling my friend by his name, and chose to call him “faggot”, instead.

one day, his father came home from church to receive two blows to the chest and one to the head from a shotgun fired by my friend.

i came across an interview on the website from my friend in prison. he was charged as an adult, and without any living family (besides his incarcerated mother), he has no chance of getting out.

in the interview, he stated that while he has been in prison, he has found more love and acceptance than he ever did outside of the prison walls.

if that’s not something to think about, i don’t know what is.

#wow.
